Last weekend I finished a second Sudanese unit which now joins my growing colonial British army. The figures are by Barry Minot and were part of a large group of 25/30mm figures that I bought a couple of years ago:
These troops are wearing the brown woollen jumpers common to Sudanese troops on campaign. Not sure if the guy at the rear is taking a leak, or maybe just reloading!
They look rather nice Bob…
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten that Barry Minot had made colonial types.
All the best. Aly
There is actually quite a comprehensive range, including some wonderful character figures. I like the old toy soldier look too. I think the officer figure is supposed to be Bromhead from the Rorkes Drift range.
DeleteI always thought in the beginning the Sudanese troops had blue wollen jumpers and the Egyptians brown. The Egyptians had a neck-cover, the Sudanese non.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any information, when the Sudanese changed to brown too?
You did a great paintjob, these guys are looking very nice:-)
cheers
Uwe
Hi Uwe, you raise a very interesting and long debated point. There are some who say they are uniformed as you describe, but there are many sources that suggest that some Anglo Sudanese units had Brown (Dark Khaki) uniforms. Another source states that some Sudanese units in Egyptian service wore blue jerseys. Given that the only evidence comes from black and white pictures we may never know for sure. If there is conclusive proof, then my troops will be shipped off to Cairo. My next battalion will be in blue.
