Table top almost completed

Work has continued on creating the 6" hex table top.  The rivers are completed as are the hills and road sections.  I have constructed a bridge out of balsa, although I need to finish this off as it is currently in its base coat.

Here are some pictures with a few of Bob Black's GNW Russians to give an idea of scale:

The buildings are from Lilliput Lane, David Winter series, which I picked up for less than a £1 each.  They were a bit chipped, so have been touched up.

Time for the Swedes to deploy methinks!

GNW More Swedish Infantry and Army Overview

The final unit from my first batch of Great Northern War figures by Ebor has been completed.  In yellow facings, these figures represent the Bjorneborgs Regiment (which I am guessing is something to do with bears!). The flag does have a little black bear motif.

The completion of this unit means that the first phase of creating a small Swedish army is complete.  Here is an overview of the full army:

GNW Swedish Cavalry

Finished last week, I am now able to post a couple of pictures of the Great Northern War Swedish cavalry.  Once again these are by Ebor and very nice figures they are.  The separate heads are a bit of a fiddle but otherwise easy to assemble:

Just one infantry unit left to finish from this batch, after which I will post a picture of the complete army, well brigade!

More GNW Swedish Infantry

My second Swedish infantry regiment for the Great Northern War comes off the production line. Painted to represent the Narke-Varmalands Regiment, the unit is made up of 25mm figures from Ebor Miniatures.  They are painted gloss using mainly Humbrol paints.

Next will be my first cavalry regiment.

Great Northern War - Swedish Commanders

Coming off the production line are some more Swedes.  Also by Ebor, these figures form the Swedish command pack, consisting of three mounted officers. They were easy to paint using gloss colours:

I also have some cavalry and another infantry unit nearing completion.

Great Northern War Swedish Artillery

Another GNW unit rolls off the production line.  This time it is Swedish Artillery.  The figures are again from Ebor Miniatures, were easy to paint, and required no assembly, apart from the gun:

The Great Northern War

Last week when Bob Black came to visit we discussed the Great Northern War (GNW) and to my surprise Bob presented me with a number of 25/28mm figures by Ebor.  These were Swedish troops. Bob already has a sizeable Russian Army but has no opponent, so using the figures he gave me as a foundation I agreed to raise a Swedish army.

Now, what I know about the GNW would not fill a postage stamp, but I am learning fast. The armies seem to be equipped with early flintlocks but still retain a few pikemen to ward off cavalry.  The Swedes look very smart in blue with various facing colours, but a lot of yellow and buff.

I could not resist painting them in my usual gloss style and here is the result - rather spledid methinks:

A couple of days ago a package arrived from Ebor with more figures and I am sharpening my paint brush!
