I have started merging my Warrior army with that painted by Jeffers. From my collection, rebased and reorganised, I have sorted out eight battalions, a battery and a general to command them all. It makes up quite a nice division size formation, with a mix of line light and a grenadier battalion.
There are are four line fusiler, one grenadier, one voltigeur and two light battalions.
I know that my structure does not accurately reflect the real French organisation as I have pooled my voltigeurs and grenadiers into battalions. In reality this would have been companies, which I don't think would work with 12 figure units:

DeleteThey look very smart indeed. I'm sure you could mix some 'companies' of Voltiguers and Grenadiers in with the Fusilers if required though. I'm always mixing and matching mine, it helps to differentiate different unit quality etc
ReplyDeleteMartin, you make a good point, however my rules do not really work when mixing troop types, but I suppose I could mix, just for the effect and just separate out full light infantry units?
DeleteThey would be converged elite battalions, therefore absolutely historical. A fine looking division you have there!
ReplyDeleteYou are quite correct John, my Austrian army has combined grenadier battalions and I do tend to converge my French grenadiers, but it would be interesting to see what effect mixing the figures up would be. That said I am limited to four bases of figures due to the hex playing surface that I use. Ideally a battalion would be six bases.
DeleteAs others, who got in first, have said, there's nothing unhistorical about grouping elite companies into units. Looking good!
