Red Alert - Setting Up

Inspired by a post on David Crook's Wargaming Odyssey blog, I decided to dig out my unopened Red Alert board game.  It was one of those ideas from a few years back that never came to pass.  I have another set that has been painted, but not by me, so I thought it would be fun to paint some spaceships and set up a basic game.

The models that come with the game are quite nicely made and come in a basic green or red plastic for the warring factions.

I experimented with various colours and in the end I decided to give all the ships a coat of shiny gunmetal and then add colours for each faction.

This is the result of my initial effort.  My green ships are now blue and sand colour:

I have started work on the other faction and set the game board up for the first scenario in the rule book.

  1. I saw David's post and was very intrigued by this game and you have now added further interest for me! The spaceships are quite nice and you have done a very nice job on the first faction. Interested to seeing the second one and very interested to see the game report.

    1. Thanks Donnie, I am working on the second set and they are just about finished. I am going to try a test game in a couple of days.

  2. Hi Bob,

They look very effective - I must confess to liking starships in varying shades of grey! Looking forward to seeing the other side and the ensuing action.

Sorely tempted to crack open my painted set and get it on the table!

    All the best,

    DC

    1. Hi David,
I tried various different colour schemes and have settled on an overall gunmetal with blue sand highlights for one faction and red grey for the second. Speed was essential as with so many ships to paint I was concerned that I might get bored and not finish! My fingers are sore from pushing in all of those bases too.
