One of the reasons for my low number of recent posts is that this blog is attracting a good deal 'Spam' comments. Most are coming from Asia and come under the guise of 'university courses'. There is also an increasing number of gambling spam messages, again from Asia.
I spend quite a bit of time going through these 'comments' and deleting them as they appear.
It is annoying isn't it? I've had some success going into the comment page under the design tab and flagging them there instead of deleting. That way the system recognizes the sender and blocks that spammer.
ReplyDeleteVery annoying. I will have a look to see if I can devise a way of blocking them.
DeleteIf only that were true (it used to be), I take up the daily chore of marking spam as spam, but still the same spammer relentlessly returns. I have contacted Google twice, but so far have not had a reply - sort of ironic when the spammer manages to ‘reach out to me’ most days :-)
ReplyDeleteSpammers are like an annoying fly that keeps coming back.
DeleteI also get spam from Asia (mainly Thailand apparently). It comes in fits and starts, sometimes it is quiet for months. Funny really as googles spam filters are generally quite good. I just go through them, flag them as spam and delete them.
ReplyDeleteI guess the tech companies have a purge every once in a while. I seem to remember getting a lot from Scandinavia a few years back.
DeleteI always reply to spam. This is why I have six Thai wives and a bathroom cabinet full of viagra.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately my spammers are bearded men just trying to take my money :-)
DeleteBob, I'd recommend just changing your settings so that comments are only allowed to be seen after being verified. As you are reading the comments anyway, it only takes a few seconds to flag them as Spam while you check out the real comments. Hope that helps! Alex
ReplyDeleteGood idea, thanks Alex. I will do that.
