The BEF - Airfix Figures

I have now finished my British WW1 force, based upon Airfix figures. They will represent a 1914 Division, with three brigades, supporting artillery and cavalry. I have also produced some casualty markers for the game:
The cavalry were made from adapting the Airfix RHA outriders:
Each Brigade consists of a command element, a machine gun unit and four stands representing each of the four infantry battalions.

This structure can be adapted to represent a single brigade or a battalion for tactical games.

I have made good progress with the Germans too. I have completed the artillery, a large part of the infantry and some of the support elements.

    1. I really wanted Airfix US cavalry horses, but could not find mine, so I settled for Italeri examples.

    1. I enjoyed painting the cavalry, but they are in a rather odd sitting position; so find the right horses was a challenge.

  3. Classic figures beautifully painted - shame about the flash problems.

    1. The flash was not too bad on the brits, the Germans are another story though.

  4. Nicely done Bob...

It was a box of these miniatures that sparked my life long interest in the Great War.

    All of the best. Aly

    1. I too had a collection when they first came out and always wished that Airfix would produce some guns for the other armies and some cavalry.

  5. Remember to use Foreign Legion for the French! With havlocks shaved off, of course.

  7. Thanks. I do need a high command for each army - thinking about that.

  8. Now Google seems to have sorted out a glitch in its comments system, I can say Bob I am endlessly surprised and impressed at your ability to take pretty much anything and turn it into a good looking and useful Wargames project. And do it quickly too.
