R11 - Russian Lancers

I have now completed the third and final examplw of the Russian cavalry types in the Douglas Miniatures range, namely the Uhlans, or Lancers. Dressed in the normal great coat attire, so common in the Crimea, these troopers are quite easy to paint. One figure had a malformed pennon, and so I reduced it and added a guidon. The unit represents the 12th Lancers:

  1. Love it! Always meant to have a stab at the Crimea myself. IN the meantime, I can enjoy it vicariously through your own project with these great old figures.

  2. I was looking at Crimean Uhlans there recently. It just occurred to me that if they were depicted in dress uniform, you could certainly use Napoleonic era Uhlans as it doesn't seem to have changed in anyway that I can see.

    What do you think?

  3. Yes, I think you could very easily use Napoleonic lancers for Russians. There are no suitable in the Douglas range, although in 20mm Hinton Hunt have several figures that would work.
