Like you I have difficulty getting started with the later Minifigs, as they look odd, but as the final colours go on they suddenly come to life and I think they suit gloss paints. That said, I have seen some lovely matt painted examples too.
I think refurbishing is more satisfying than starting off with raw metal, giving much faster results, although on some occasions I end up completely repainting the figures!
I don't know how you do it, Bob. All your recent posts have been amazing. I was sworn off Minifigs, but I can feel myself weakening...
