British 5th Dragoon Guards

Here we have the third regiment from the Heavy Brigade, the 5th Dragoon Guards. These figures are B4, Heavy Dragoon, mounted on BH1, British cavalry horses. At the time of the battle of Balaclava, the Heavy brigade consisted of five regiments of heavy dragoons - the 5th and 6th Dragoon Guards, the 1st Dragoons, 2nd Dragoons (Scots Greys) and the 6th Dragoons.

British 8th Hussars

Originally a Douglas Miniatures Napoleonic Hussar, this figure represents another Regiment from the Light Brigade - the 8th Hussars. Seen here in full dress uniform (most unlikely in the Crimea) this figure is armed with a carbine and is on picquet duty:

Zouave Command

The residual project from before Christmas was the command group for the French Zouaves. These are Wodensfeld figures and now that they are painted they fit in quite well with the Douglas Miniatures infantrymen. The pictures are a bit grainy due to light issues. I may take some more at the weekend. The standard is downloaded from a picture on the internet and touched up with gold paint and set with pva glue.

Russian Infantry - Grenadiers

Russian grenadiers wore exactly the same uniform as line and light troops, except for minor embellishments to the uniform, and of course the standards that they carried. This unit is made up of R1, officer in helmet, R2 infantry in helmet advancing and R14 infantry standard bearer in helmet. They are also wearing white summer trousers, just for a change! The standard denotes a grenadier regiment of the 3rd Division.

Back in Production

After a nice long break for Christmas and New Year, the paint brushes are back in action with a unit of Russian grenadiers almost ready to take the field. In the meantime I have been having a go at painting a 42nd Highlander (Black Watch) to see what they look like. I will be working on a full unit in the coming months. After the Russian grenadiers it will be a further regiment of British Heavy Dragoons.
